On first launch, allow Critter Walk to read your step count. The iPhone app uses steps for daily progress, streaks, and journey charts. The Apple Watch app uses steps and heart rate during walks.
Start a Walk
Tap Start Walking from the Home screen. Critter Walk tracks active time, steps, and distance while your companion joins the trail.
Set Your Goal
Open Settings to choose your daily step goal, distance unit, reminder window, and milestone haptics.
Pick a Companion
Open Buddy to choose your walking companion. The Premium Companion Pack unlocks additional companions through the App Store.
Frequently Asked
Why are my steps missing?
Check that Health access is enabled in the Health app under Sharing, then reopen Critter Walk. HealthKit can take a moment to deliver recent Apple Watch steps to iPhone.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Critter Walk can read step data from iPhone Health. The Apple Watch app adds a wrist-friendly walking screen with live steps, distance, and heart rate.
Does Critter Walk work offline?
Yes for walking, local history, goals, reminders, and companion settings. App Store purchases and restores require Apple's StoreKit services.
How do notifications work?
Critter Walk schedules local notifications for goal reminders, goal completion, and an active-walk reminder. You can change reminder settings in the app or turn notifications off in iOS Settings.
Can I change miles to kilometers?
Yes. Open Settings, choose Distance Units, and select miles or kilometers. The preference also syncs to the Watch app.
